George Comstock Obituary

COMSTOCK George Jay Comstock, age 86, of Midlothian, Va., died January 9, 2007. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ruth Comstock; and was a proud father of four sons, William Jay, and his wife, Carolyn, of Escondido, Calif., and their daughters, Carrie Schwender, and husband, Mathias, and Megan; Robert John, and his wife, Joyce, of Irwin, Pa. and their sons, David and wife, Carise, Gregory, and Michael; Thomas James, and his wife, Anne, of Simi Valley, Calif. and their children, Benjamin, Allison and Grant; George Jeffrey, and his wife, Rebecca, of Richmond and their daughter, Renée. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Stevens of Pittsburgh; and his niece, Ann Stevens Spangler, and husband, Paul, of Pittsburgh. George worked for RMI Titanium in Niles, Ohio for 26 years before retiring in 1982 as controller. In 1985, he and his wife relocated to Midlothian, where he was a member and elder of Southminster Presbyterian Church and an organizing founder and avid volunteer for Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity. George's love for God was demonstrated through his care for his family, his commitment to the church, and his dedication to helping those less fortunate. A memorial service will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 7500 Hull Street Rd., Richmond, Va. 23235, on Friday, January 12 at 2 p.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in his name to Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity, 2281 Dabney Road, Richmond, Va. 23230 or Bon Secours Hospice, 5875 Bremo Road, Suite 710, Richmond, Va. 23226.

Jurgen still remembers fondly a Thanksgiving dinner with the late George and the entire Comstock family in Richmond, treating him like one of their own.
