Gerald Whaley Obituary

Gerald Lynn Whaley

August 7, 1948 - January 28, 2025

Gerald Lynn Whaley, age 76, passed away on January 28, 2025.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father Gerald Lynn Whaley. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose life touched the hearts of everyone that knew him. Gerald was born August 7, 1948 in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Gerald Whaley and Ada H. Whaley. He grew up in and around Buckingham and Cumberland Virginia. He spent the early part of his professional career as a heavy equipment mechanic for Caterpillar. Later on he would start his own business, Whaley Excavating, Inc. as he loved being outside and operating bulldozers and excavators. In his spare time he enjoyed family fellowship, light hearted humor, hunting, fishing, and reading stories of the old west. Throughout his life he showed unwavering love and commitment to his family and was a well respected member of the community.

Survived by Lynda Worsham and sons Stanley and Travis Whaley (Michelle).

Grandchildren Emma and Jackson Whaley.

He was the oldest of five children, predeceased by brother, Ernest W. (Margaret). Survived by sisters Diane Hedrick (Ralph) of Cumberland, Sharon Franklin (Allen) of Farmville and Karen Ridenour (Terry) of Knoxville.

A celebration of life will be held at Dover Baptist Church on Saturday February 8, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
