Grace Myers Obituary

Grace Shiflett Myers

February 21, 1949 - April 6, 2025

Grace Shiflett Myers of Richmond, VA, passed away April 6, 2025 with her daughters by her side. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jayne Shiflett; as well as her sister, Frances Seaton; brother-in-law, Chris Seaton; brother, Tommy Shiflett; and sister-in-law, Diana Shiflett.

She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Jennifer Myers White (Rick); Blair Myers McDuff (Patrick); and her adored grandchildren: Grace, Thomas, and Miller McDuff; and Walker, Henry (Callie) and Bailey White; great-granddaughter, Virginia White; sister, Rebekah Shiflett; brothers, Charlie (Gwen), Ronald (Marya) and Rolfe Shiflett (Julie); and numerous nieces and nephews whom she deeply loved.

Born and raised in Richmond, VA, Grace was the second of seven children. She attended Saint Benedict Catholic School, was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, and was a graduate of Westhampton College, University of Richmond, with a degree in Psychology. As a child, she spent her summers on the swim team at Willow Oaks Country Club and vacationing with her family in Virginia Beach.

While at Westhampton College, Grace began working at Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen Law Firm, where she continued to work for over 45 years. During that time, she was recognized by Virginia Lawyers Weekly in the inaugural class of "Unsung Heroes" of 2017 and was profiled in a special section of Virginia Lawyers Weekly. Her colleagues joked about how she may have been the only auditor anyone actually loved. She retired shortly after the birth of her youngest grandchild in 2019. After retirement, she remained in close contact with many of her colleagues through coffee dates and long weekend trips to the mountains and beach.

Grace was a voracious reader who often devoured a book in a day. Be it novels, short stories, auto-biographies, or history, she loved reading. Sitting by the water under the sun, reading absolutely anything was her favorite pastime. She loved being anywhere near the water, especially on the beach by the Atlantic Ocean, Chesapeake Bay, or on a dock by the Rappahannock River.

Family was paramount in Grace's life. She was the most devoted mother to her two daughters, who revered her. As a mother, Grace valued and instilled the qualities of kindness, compassion, integrity, and hard work. She became known as "Gigi" upon the birth of her first granddaughter and namesake. Grace was well known by her grandchildren's friends and pre-school teachers for having her famous "Gigi Days." She treasured extended family traditions and gatherings, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and weeks at the beach.

Friends were also an important part of Grace's life. Her house was the place for a meal, a cocktail, a show by the fire, a glass of wine on the deck, holiday celebrations, and one on one deep conversations. She was always there to lend an ear, a hand, a smile, a ride, moral support, or an opinion.

Grace will be missed deeply and remembered by her family and friends for her unconditional love, loyalty, sage advice, and generosity. In memory of Grace, her family would be honored if you would show kindness and compassion to someone in need.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 14th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bliley's Funeral Home, 3801 Augusta Avenue. A Service will be held on Tuesday, April 15th, at 11 a.m. at The Bishop's Chapel at Roslyn, 8727 River Road.

Grace was one of my favorite childhood friends at St. Benedict's. Sleepovers at her huge house or my home were part of some fun weekends. I am so happy that I got to see her at the St. Benedict Gala in 2018. In fact, I believe that she was happy to see me, too! Becky and Charlie, you may remember me as Gayle Pitts. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences. I just learned of Grace's passing today through a classmate. I am now living in Texas and there are lots of opportunities to perform acts of kindness. Remembering your family with love.

Grace was a wonder person with a strong maternal instinct. She was an exceptional mother and grandmother. Grace loved to debate a topic but was not close minded to considering a different viewpoint if it made sense to her. She will be sorely missed but heaven just got another angel.
