Gregory Riddick

1968 - 2025

Dr. Gregory Parker Riddick of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on August 23, 2025. He was born on June 3, 1968, in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Dr. David H. Riddick and Susan Deredith Riddick.

Greg grew up in Chesterfield County and graduated from Trinity Episcopal High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree magna cum laude from the College of William and Mary in 1992. During his time there, he served as Associate Editor of the W&M Review, founded and edited the Journal of Undergraduate Research, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

He pursued advanced studies at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Virginia, where he received the Dean's Fellowship and earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Computational Biology. His post-doctoral training took him to prestigious institutions including MIT and the National Cancer Institute.

A dedicated scientist, Greg authored or co-authored more than fifteen scientific publications focusing on glioblastoma stem cells, lung and bladder cancer, and bioinformatics analysis of next-generation sequencing data. At the time of his passing, he was serving as Senior Computational Biologist at VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, contributing to cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence and oncology.

Greg was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Scott M. Riddick. He is survived by his mother; sisters Jennifer Gorman (Rob) and Rebekah McCormick (Scott); brother Christopher Riddick (Crystal); nieces Lucy Gorman and Norah McCormick; and nephew Hugh McCormick.

In his free time, Greg enjoyed attending musical concerts, participating in meet-up groups, and volunteering within the community.

A private memorial will be held by his family. Donations in his memory may be made to the VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center or the National Cancer Institute in Richmond, Virginia.
