Harriett Garnett

1933 - 2025

Our beautiful mom, Harriett Zimmerman Garnett, passed away peacefully at her home in Glen Allen, VA, on August 21st, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born Lakeside, Virginia, November 29th, 1933.



Harriett was a loving, caring, and selfless woman whose greatest joy was her family. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she attended every event and milestone, always cheering on her children and her beloved granddaughter, her "angel baby." She shared a deep love with her husband, Larry Sr., giving their family a wonderful life filled with comfort and support.

She cherished her friends, church family, and her home. She had a vibrant spirit, loved a good gathering, and was usually the last to leave, gratefully accepting leftovers with a smile. She loved socializing with her friends playing bridge, she was a collector and member of the Dogwood Doll and Toy Club & The Virginia Miniature Enthusiasts. She enjoyed working at Stein Mart, The Richmond Center, The Altria Theater, and at the Bizarre Bazaar in later years.

Her love, kindness, and generosity touched everyone she met. She will be deeply missed, but her family and friends take comfort in the lasting memories and in knowing that she both gave and received an abundance of love.

Harriett is survived by her children: Laurie & Rick Metzger, Larry & Vicki Garnett, Valerie & Michael Calogerakis; her grandchildren Madison Calogerakis, Ryan & Matthew Dunn, Jessica & Sean Farrell; great-grandchildren Piper Mae & Patrick Matthew Farrell, Sister-in-law, Bettie Zimmerman, and all whose life she touched. Harriett is preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Lawrence H Garnett Sr., Parents: William H. & Eula Leonard Zimmerman. Brother, William S. & Sister, Eula "Sissy" Zimmerman.

Special Thanks to her devoted and loving caregivers, La'Tese, Pamela, Michele, Princess, Marguerite, Janicia and Susanne as well as Affinity Hospice of Virginia and nurse, Rosel.

A memorial service to honor Harriett's life will be held at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, 2300 Dumbarton Rd. on Sunday, September 14th, at 2:30 p.m., followed by a reception. Visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church in Harriett's memory.
