Helen Evirs Obituary
October 28, 1923 - January 11, 2026
Helen Gertrude (Keefe) Evirs of Jupiter, Florida, formerly of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, passed away at the age of 102 on Sunday, January 11th in the tender and peaceful care of Trustbridge Hospice and her daughters, Diane and Patricia.
Helen was the loving and devoted wife of the late Howard "Bud" W. Evirs, Jr., having celebrated 74 years of marriage together prior to his passing in 2023. She was the daughter of the late Helen G. (Lewis) Keefe and Patrick J. Keefe. Helen was born October 28, 1923 in Needham, Massachusetts, one of 9 children. Helen and Howard lived in Massachusetts until retiring to Florida. In their nearly 40 years of retirement, they traveled and explored the world together, often spending more time traveling than at home.
Helen's joyful and buoyant personality, and her kind and generous nature earned her many lifelong friends. Always quick with a joke, Mom never hesitated to share her cheer or speak her mind. She was an amazing cook who welcomed houseguests, always ensuring everyone was well fed!
Helen devoted many hours to volunteer work, including WW II USO, Belize United States Embassy office, and more than 10 years at the Burbank Hospital Guild Gift Shop in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Her volunteer efforts continued after their move to Florida, where for 25 years, she and Howard served in their local soup kitchen, side-by-side. Helen also had a great passion for thrift shops, and enjoyed many years of volunteer service at St. Mark's Thrift Store. She and Howard were devout parishioners of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Helen is survived and deeply missed by her daughters, Diane E. Evirs (Westminster, MA), and Patricia A. Evirs (Richmond, VA), her grandchildren, Jonathan Ryan, Lisa and Bryan Gaidanowicz, her great-granddaughters, Emily and Korrie Ryan, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Howard W. Evirs, Jr., and her beloved son, Howard "Howie" W. Evirs, III (1952-1981). Helen was the sole survivor of 9 siblings.
The family will honor and celebrate her remarkable life with a private burial alongside her husband, son, and son-in-law in Lunenburg, Massachusetts.
