Helen Holden Obituary

Helen Epes Doyle Holden, 77, of Petersburg, died on Sunday, January 12, 2003 at her residence at Sunrise Assisted Living in Richmond, Virginia. She was the widow of Herbert Randall Holden and the daughter of the late William Wesley and Helen Devereux Hawkins Doyle. She attended Mary Washington College and was a lifelong member of Second Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Holden was the corresponding secretary for the Society of the Descendants of Francis Epes I of Virginia for over 25 years. She was also a docent for the City of Petersburg’s Department of Tourism, giving tours of Blandford Church and other local historical sites. Mrs. Holden is survived by three children: Pattie Epes Holden Bjork and husband William David Bjork; Herbert Randall Holden Jr., wife Martha Rangasajo Purisima Holden, and children Mark Gile Holden and Theresa Epes Holden; and Martha Prince Holden Wright, husband John Brook Wright, and children Wynn Elizabeth Suttles and William Stuart Wright. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2003 at the Petersburg chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. William Pegram Johnson III officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 419 W. Washington Street, Petersburg, Va. 23803; or to Hospice of Central Virginia, 7231 Forest Avenue, Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23226; or to Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond Chapter, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

Your in our hearts and prayers at this time of lost. I will never forget your parents making the drive to Portsmouth to be at my wedding. It meant alot to have them there.
