Howard Robertson Obituary

ROBERTSON, Howard Carter Sr., Howard Carter Robertson, Sr. "Snookie", of Reedville, VA, on December 20, 2023 at the age of 96, transitioned from time into eternity. Snookie was born and raised in Reedville by his parents, Ralph Ryland and Eva Bray Robertson. After graduating from William and Mary, he taught PE and Biology at Tappahannock High School. He also coached many sports. After a brief time teaching he served in the US Air Force during the Korean War being stationed in Alamogordo, New Mexico which he dearly loved. He returned to teaching in Tappahannock after serving and taught for 38 years living in Tappahannock almost 50 years. He married his beloved Otelia Rogers from Hacks Neck and had a wonderful 58 years together before her passing. He was also preceded in death by his 9 siblings, Paul Revere (Ann), R. "Reds" Lindwood (Alliene), John Ryland (Ruth), Joseph "Snap" Chester (Lucille), Naoma Vanlandingham (Carroll), Ralph Manning (Marie), Eva "Biddie" Robertson Haynie (Warner), Raymond (Rose) and Iona Bliss Robertson. He is survived by his children Dorothy "Dottie" Longest, Howard Carter Robertson, Jr. (Denise) and Otelia Rebecca "Becky" Robertson. Snookie adored his grandchildren Howard Carter Robertson, III (Candace) and Jessie Robertson (Kenny). He was blessed with 6 great grandchildren Howard Carter Robertson, IV, Aiden, Koby and Harper Robertson, as well as Deaton Warren and Dade Zoldork. Snookie dearly loved playing golf with his son, reading a book on WWII and the Civil War both of which he could recall who won what battle and when. He also loved the Washington Redskins and Western movies. He was fortunate to have married a fantastic cook and he always commented "why would I want to eat at a restaurant when I can get the best meal here at home". Snookie was blessed with 96 years of fairly excellent health. He got to live in his beloved Reedville in his family home place where he was born on Main Street.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023 with service at 12 noon at Fairfields Methodist Church, Burgess, VA. Interment will follow at Roseland Cemetery, Reedville, VA. A reception will follow at the church.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Fairfields Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department or Northumberland County Rescue Squad.
