Inell Smith

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the homegoing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Inell Reatha Carter Smith, who went home to be with her Heavenly Father, on June 3, 2025, at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Smith; and daughter, Blanche S. Johnson.

She was born on February 12,1932, in Hanover County, VA, to Thomas Emanuel and Inell Dorothy Carter, the first of 15 children.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Haymes, Mary Smith Young (Linwood), and Glorice Bervine; one son, Bryan L Smith; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five sisters, Earllean Mitchell, Luceal Allen, Rosa Fleming, Cynthia Taylor, and Fern L. Carter; two brothers, Emanuel and Frank Carter; two sisters-in-law, Peola Gaines and Saundra Carter; one brother-in-law, Stanley Smithers; and a host of other family members and friends whom she adored.

Professional services entrusted to Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where the family will receive friends Friday, June 13, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m., and where her Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery, on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 11 a.m.
