Iona Adkins Obituary

Iona Whitehead Adkins, retired Circuit Court clerk, age 79, of Charles City, Va., departed this life Thursday, October 14, 2004, after a lengthy illness. She was born July 20, 1925. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. and Luevania Whitehead; two brothers, Robert Jr. and Fenton. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Malchi Adkins Sr.; three sons, Barry Sr. (Barbara), Malchi Jr. and Byron Sr. (Bernice); one daughter, Mona; eight grandchildren, Barry Jr., Breshae, Phillip, and Byron Adkins Jr., Kaci Easley, Carl Daniels, Chanthony Whiting and Tashekia Nixon; four sisters, Phyllis Charity, Vivian Walker (Henry), Carolyn Whitehead, and Connie Crawley (Saunders); one brother, Langston H. Whitehead (Irene); brother-in-law, Leroy Adkins; sister-in-law, Florence Taylor; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City, where family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services 12 noon Tuesday at Samaria Baptist Church, Charles City. Rev. Elsworth Tait, pastor of St. John Baptist Church, Charles City, officiating. Interment St. John Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. John Baptist Church Building Fund.
