Irvin Howard Davis, Jr.

Irvin Howard Davis, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2026. He was born August 16, 1945, and was predeceased by his parents, Irvin H. Davis, Sr. and Mary Rachael Launder Davis, and his three half-sisters, Elizabeth Satterwhite, Beulah Alvis, and Novella Hatcher.

The child of a farmer, Irvin grew up in 1950s and 60s Short Pump, Virginia, where his family owned and operated the local general store. His mother's family, the Launders, were long-time residents and brickmasons in Church Hill.

Irvin attended Short Pump Elementary and Freeman High School (Class of 1963). After serving as a Forestry Department cadet, he dedicated more than 30 years as a firefighter with Henrico County. The brotherhood of the fire department remained central throughout his life, and he stayed active in retirement working with Guardian Fire & Safety.

An avid fisherman, Irvin landed an 813-pound blue marlin off the coast of North Carolina. He was a frequent Volunteer of the Year at Field Day of the Past, became a Certified Master Gardener, and planted many butterfly gardens in playgrounds and memory care communities. A devout Christian, Irvin lived a life defined by loyalty, service, and care for others.

Family was the center of his life. He is survived by his children, Irvin "Dave" Davis III (Casie) and Meredith Davis Shields (Rob), and four beloved grandchildren: Emma Davis, Jake Davis, Carter Shields, and Kirsten Shields.

A service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Bliley Funeral Home (Staples Mill). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Henrico County Firefighters and Families Charitable Foundation.
