Jacqueline Riggs Obituary
Jacqueline Andrews Riggs
April 22, 1940 - February 1, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of Jacqueline Andrews Riggs, age 85, announces her passing on February 1, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia. She was born on April 22, 1940, in Richmond, Virginia, to Joseph and Jacqueline Andrews.
Affectionately known as Jill, she was a graduate of Henry Clay High School, Class of 1957, and later attended Mary Washington College. Jill cherished her upbringing in Ashland, Virginia, where she grew up surrounded by a large and close-knit extended family-an experience that shaped her deep love of family and connection throughout her life.
While living in Ashland, Jill met her future husband, Bill Riggs, who was attending Randolph-Macon College. They were married in June 1962. Early in their marriage, the couple moved to Massachusetts while Bill served in the military. They soon returned to Ashland to be near family, which remained a priority for Jill all her life.
Some of Jill's most treasured memories were made during Fourth of July weekends spent on Gwynn's Island with her sister and their families. Those holidays were filled with swimming, sunbathing, fireworks, eating crabs, and the joyful traditions of summer gatherings that she loved so much.
Jill spent many years working part-time as a secretary for Manpower, where she was honored as "Secretary of the Year" in 1979. She later worked for many years as a receptionist at C. Porter Vaughn Real Estate, where she remained until her retirement.
Jill was known for her love of conversation and her remarkable memory, especially when it came to phone numbers. There was hardly a seven-digit number she couldn't recall. Jill and Bill spent 55 wonderful years in their home on Hollins Road, in a neighborhood that provided them with countless friendships and fond memories.
Jill was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Bill. She is survived by her sons, Billy Riggs (Lynn) and Bob Riggs (Renee); her grandchildren, Haley and Will, Robert, Chris, and Joe; and her great-granddaughter, Quinn (daughter of Will and Emily). She is also survived by her siblings, Cecile Cox (Jim), Joe Andrews (Bonnie), Bill Andrews (Susan), and John Andrews, as well as Bill's siblings, Barbara Conley and Audrey Luetters.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Avenue, Henrico, Virginia, 23238, in the Mausoleum.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful help and care provided by Jill's friends and caregivers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad.
