James Brittingham Newcomb, Jr.

July 8, 1934 - February 6, 2026

James Brittingham Newcomb, Jr. "Jim," 91, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 6, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen McKinney Newcomb. He is survived by his three children, Steve Newcomb and his wife, Jane, Sherry Webb and her husband, Dwight, and Glenn Newcomb and his wife, Janet; seven grandchildren, Brittany Newcomb Hodge, Steven Newcomb, Doug Webb, Drew Webb, Kati Webb Adams, Rusty Kelley and Jennifer Newcomb Hess; as well as 12 great-grandchildren.

Jim was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, in the Church Hill area. He attended John Marshall High School where he played trumpet in the band and was in the cadet corps. He served in the Virginia National Guard for a time and worked for Verizon Communications for 37 and a half years as a lineman, installer, installation foreman and cable maintenance foreman. Jim coached baseball for Chamberlayne little league. He was a member, Sunday School teacher and deacon at Chamberlayne Baptist Church.

Jim enjoyed his family, watching baseball and basketball and spending time with the love of his life, Helen.

The family will receive friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 28th, with a service following at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
