James Salley Obituary

Mr. James Robert "Jim Bob" Salley, of 2108 Cowford Road, Halifax, Virginia, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, Va. He was born in Halifax Co., Va. May 12, 1923, and was 82 years of age. He was the son of the late Charles Edward Salley Sr. and Annie Reeves Salley, and was married to Gladys Trickey Salley for 62 years. Mr. Salley was a member of Dan River Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was a member of the Dan River Ruritan Club, Halifax County Bee Keepers Club, American Legion Post 8, and an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. James Robert "Jim Bob" Salley is survived by his wife, Gladys Trickey Salley of Halifax, Virginia; two daughters, Janice S. Lacks and husband, Richard, of Kenbridge, Va., Geneva S. Lotspeich and husband, Clyde, of Parksley, Va.; two brothers, Charles Edward Salley Jr. of Halifax, Va., John Henry Salley of Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters, Lucille Shotwell of Oakland, Md., Louise S. Thomas of Roxboro, N.C.; five grandchildren, Chris Lacks and wife, Amy, of Richmond, Va., Michael Lacks and wife, Kristin, of Lunenburg, Va., Walt Lotspeich and wife, Natalie, of Durham, N.C., Russ Lotspeich and wife, Clare of Midlothian, Va., Allen Lotspeich of Spangdahlem - U.S. Air Force Base, Germany; five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Esther, Joshua and Jason Lacks, Bryce Lotspeich. Funeral services for Mr. James Robert "Jim Bob" Salley will be held Saturday, March 25, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Dan River Baptist Church, with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home, Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and other times at the home, 2108 Cowford Road, Halifax, Virginia. I was so sorry to hear of your loss. You won't recognize my name but I am J.D. and Evelyn Reeves's daughter and my parents were very fond of Jim Bob. I met him several times at family events and he was always the consumate gentleman and very kind and considerate. Your memories will sustain you in your grief.
