James Watson Obituary

WATSON James Goodrich Watson, age 91, entered into the joy of his Lord on May 1, 2007, in Farmville, Va. He was born in Darlington Heights, Va. on July 30, 1915, the son of the late Willie A. Watson and Sude O. Watson of Darlington Heights. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 50 years, Hilde Kastl Watson; four sons, James W. Watson of West Palm Beach, Fla., Thomas S. Watson of Heathsville, Va., Eric S. Watson of Woodstock, Vt., and Evan L. Watson of Falls Church, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Samuel E. Watson of Merrit Island, Fla.; one sister, Sue W. Powell of Farmville; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Hunter R. Watson of Farmville. He was a 1935 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and a 1939 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He retired from Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company (Verizon) in 1978. The family will receive friends at Shorter Funeral Home in Farmville from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Lee Copeland, will be held at 2 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home Friday, May 4, 2007. Burial will follow at Spring Creek Baptist Church in Darlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the missionary fund of Faith Bible Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 917, Farmville, Va. 23901, where he and Hilde were faithful members; or to the Ama Nyame Medical Center, a medical center in Ghana, supported by Mr. Watson's physician, Dr. L. Donkor, P.O. Box 353, Farmville, Va.
