Janice Guthrie Carlton

CARLTON, Janice Guthrie, 95, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 10, 2022. She was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 62 years, Ralph Spencer Carlton Sr.; her parents, Alonza Bernard Guthrie and Bettie Nichols Guthrie, of Scottsburg, Virginia; four sisters and one brother. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ralph S. Carlton Jr. (Kathy) of Raleigh, N.C., Betty Carlton Ikenberry (Walter), Alonza Wood Carlton (Robin), Janice Carlton Stucke, all of Richmond and Michael Wayne Carlton (Kathy) of Roanoke, Virginia. She had 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends. Mrs. Carlton was a long-time member of Prospect Baptist Church in Hurt, Virginia until she moved to Richmond where she attended Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church. Janice's greatest joy came from providing hospitality and wonderful meals for a house full of family, friends and the occasional stranger. She spent many happy hours square dancing, round dancing and ballroom dancing with her husband and many dancing friends. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Westport Nursing and Rehab on Forest Ave. Their wonderful care and comfort to Mrs. Carlton and her family over the last few years has been a gift we will always appreciate. A Life Celebration service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St.
