Janice Halloran Obituary

HALLORAN, Mrs. Janice Brandenburg, of Richmond, Va., died October 17, 2021. Janice was born in Union Bridge, Md. and grew up on Spa Creek in Annapolis. She graduated from Westhampton College, where she met her husband, Charles L. Halloran. She was preceded in death by Charlie; her parents, Wilbur and Bertie Brandenburg; and younger brother, Wilbur "Buzz" Brandenburg. She is survived by her children and their spouses, C. Stuart Halloran (Lelia Pendleton), Susan Blanton (Michael) and Amy Halloran (David Jordan); and her brother's wife, Mary Brandenburg; and their children and grandchildren. She was the beloved Nan to her grandchildren, Geoffrey Blanton and Katie and Spencer Jordan. Janice was an accomplished seamstress, having made both her daughters' wedding dresses, and an avid bridge player. She loved crossword puzzles, British mysteries and dancing the jitterbug with Charlie. She was a librarian at Falling Creek Middle School for over 20 years and served as the secretary of Westhampton alumni class of 1950 for many years. She was also a member of Tri Club and the Tuckahoe Woman's Club. Janice lived at the Lakewood retirement community for the past eight years, reuniting with many of her Westhampton friends. A memorial service will be held at Lakewood Manor Simms Center on Saturday, October 23 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tuckahoe Library of Henrico County and the Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Department.

I am so sorry to just hear about Janice's passing. I am a 1971 UR graduate and have edited the class notes section of the alumni magazine for the past six years. I so enjoyed talking and visiting with Janice, who served as secretary for the Class of 1950. She often told me about the accomplishments of her grandchildren, and she was so proud of them. I will miss her wit and enjoyable conversation and extend my sympathy to all her family and friends.

Janice and I shared many memories as classmates in the class of '50 at Westhampton College. I moved to Manorhouse very near Lakewood about four years ago. Then by phone we shared news of classmates as she gathered material for the Alumni Bulletin. She was a dedicated secretary for our class. I am sad to lose my friend and joy her family as we grieve.
With love and caring, Hilda Hankins

Janice and I shared many good times at Westhampton College as members of the class of '50. They were wonderful days. After moving to Manorhouse not far from Lakewood, we shared many phone conversations catching up on our classmates as she gathered material for the Alumni Bulletin news. I am sad to lose my good friend, Janice. Blessings on her family as they grieve her loss. Hilda Hankins
