Joan Alexander Obituary

ALEXANDER, Joan Harmon, It is with profound sadness that we convey the loss of our sister, Joan "Bunny" Alexander who departed this life on January 15, 2024. Though devastated by the enormous loss of our brilliant, compassionate, witty, generous, talented, charming sister, our family takes great comfort in the certainty of our Christian faith and the celebration that has begun. Joan will be reunited with our beloved parents, James and Martha Harmon and our sister Joyce Harmon Keller. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sons Scott and Jason Alexander, her granddaughter, Courtney and grandson, Tanner, her brother Wayne Harmon and sisters Janet Foster, Karen Drews, Lynda Harmon. As the oldest child she was often a surrogate mother to us younger ones. She was also the historian of our family and an irreplaceable light to all who knew and loved her. Joan was born in Richmond on May 20, 1941. She was a graduate of Douglas Freeman High School. She continued her education at the University of Pittsburgh where she earned her Masters in Speech Pathology. She traveled far and wide as she followed her husband in the advancement of his career in the US Air Force. Joan thrived and took great pride in her job at RSVP, where she worked for 25 years helping veterans to learn skills and to return to work. She was loved and respected by her Boss and co-workers for her loyalty and dedication, friendship and sense of humor and fashionista style. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Per Joan's wishes services will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project 1120 G St NW Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005 or your local animal rescue.

I am so very sad to learn of Joan's passing but so very Happy that she is with her mom, dad and Joyce. Your family felt so much like my own as the years that Joyce and I "hung out" either at your house, our house or the river. I will continue to keep your family in my prayers. With continued love, Rita Massey Martin

I am so very sorry to know that Joan has passed. She was very much a surrogate mother, even to your friends. I remember when she went with us to VA Beach and had a bit of trouble keeping us in line. But she won! She always came across as highly intelligent and she did have a great sense of humor. As sorry as I am about your loss, I am just as happy to know how blessed she is to be with our Lord. I pray she didn´t suffer, and I also pray that all of you are handling your loss and grief. I have never been good at that. I´m sending each of you my love and sympathy.
