Joan Ingram Obituary
Joan Elizabeth Forshaw Ingram
December 22, 1936 - September 13, 2025
Joan Elizabeth Forshaw Ingram, of Richmond, Va., passed away on September 13, 2025. She was born December 22, 1936, in Asheville, N.C., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hampton Forshaw.
She was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Ala., and earned her bachelor's degree in English from Auburn University, where she served as president of her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. A true Auburn Tiger to the core, she cheered "War Eagle!" with the same spirited determination she brought to all of life.
After raising her children, she began a professional career as a paralegal, working with Wells Fargo, Wachovia, and the Virginia Bar Association. She also gave generously of her time to the community as a docent at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. A devoted member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, she served faithfully on the altar guild and delighted in creating floral arrangements that graced the sanctuary. Her devotion to faith and learning was reflected in her completion of the Theological Education by Extension program, Education for Ministry, administered by the School of Theology at the University of the South.
She had a gift for cultivating beauty, most clearly seen in her gardens, which were both inviting and refined. They could easily have been lifted into the pages of Southern Living, though she would no doubt have had a few choice edits for the captions. She will also be remembered for her family and friend famous biscuits, which, much like her spirit, were one of a kind. Her nature was equally distinctive, candid, strong-willed, and unapologetically feisty, qualities that gave her life character and left those around her with enduring memories.
She is survived by her daughter, Paige Fox (Ted) of Manakin-Sabot, Va.; her son, Grey Ingram (Lauren) of Riverside, Ill.; and her five grandchildren, Anne Pearson Fox, Millie Fox, Thomas Fox, Emma Rose Ingram, and Pearson Ingram.
Joan's life will be remembered by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, September 22nd, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 12291 River Road, Richmond, Va. 23238.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving and compassionate care our Mom received from her doctor, nurses, and staff at Westminster Canterbury.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, with "Memorial" in the memo line, or to Westminster Canterbury Foundation in her memory.
