John Almond Obituary

John Scott Almond

John Scott Almond, 77, entered eternal life on June 14, 2025. He is survived by Linda, his wife of 53 years; sisters, Gwendolyn June Brunner (Michael), Vivalda Helen Dodd and Regina Kay Almond-Albro (Thomas); numerous nieces and nephews; and his brother-in-law, Robert "Bobby" George Pugh (Carol).Mr. Almond grew up in Richmond along with his five sisters and two brothers; children of the late Robert and Norma Almond. He was predeceased by sisters, Barbara Dale Carr and Betty Carol Claybrook; brothers, Robert Ward Almond Jr. and Kenneth Lee Almond.Mr. Almond graduated with honors from Averett University. He started working at age 18 for the Virginia Department of Highways, later for Bank of Virginia, and for John Broughton & Associates, before returning to the state and retiring at age 58 from the Department of Taxation as a database administrator.He was a stamp and coin collector, an amateur astronomer and genealogist. He and his wife enjoyed travelling the U.S. and world, visiting Australia, Europe and Mexico.A special thank you to Tony Fogg and the staff at Crossroads at Bon Air, an assisted living facility.

A Celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Westover HIlls United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the building fund at Westover Hills United Methodist Church, 1705 Westover Hills Blvd., Richmond, VA 23225.
