Jack was a mentor to me and many others. I enjoyed knowing him for some 50+ years to back when he came out of the army and I was in elementary school. My dad ran a shop within walking distance and we were all close friends. Jack was also my best customer when I ran Sadisco Richmond. He was honest and epitomized the word integrity. I also had the pleasure of working for him and other recyclers in the PRP system. I will truly miss going by and just chatting with him. He was always available and I looked up to him. My thoughts and prayers are with Velecia and their children and grandchildren. I'm sure Bruce Auto Parts will continue to thrive with the example that Jack has set for Scott, Mark, Dennis and the rest of the fine emplyees there. It was just a pleasure knowing him.

Mr.Bruce was one of the finest businessman in the "world". He will surely be missed by the industry. I had the pleasure to work for him for two summers and it was great. May God bless and take care of his family at such a trying time. He helped my school with anything that we asked for. Thanks from Leroy and the crew at J. Sargeant Reynolds Auto Body and Automotive Technology. He was a true man of his words and always willing to help with education.

To The Family of "Jack" Bruce
I found Jack to exemplify fine character among his acquaintances in the working field we shared. Being much younger than Jack , I always kept my ears opened to hear his words of knowledge. The many times we shared conversations and eating engagements with others during sales deals, his mannerism was always plain, sincere and caring of others. I will truly miss his presence. For his encouraging words, made me feel more welcome in the recycling business. May the family hold on to God's Unchanging hands.

Jack was a role model for me.I wish I could have been more like him.He was the kind of person that you remember things he told you, whether last week or twenty years ago.Once when visiting him in his office a customer called who wanted to talk to him about buying a piece of salvage. The person was trying to chisel Jacks price.Jack talked to him with all the patience any man could muster and politely told him he didn't think he could sell any cheaper. The way Jack talked to the man was something that has always stayed with me.Most people in Jacks position would have had there calls screened and wouldn't have even talked to the man.Once I had the pleasure of taking Jack and his good friend Ted Parker to a Oriole game in Baltimore. It was a priviledge to be in such good company.Jack was a man I always looked up to in life.To see him again i'm sure I had better keep looking up.

Dear Bruce Family, Please know that our prayers are with you at this time of loss. Jack was a tough competitor but one that I admired. We spoke of family occasionally & I know that you meant the world to him. Family was very important to him as he encouraged me several times by telling me how he enjoyed interacting with by sons. He was a fine man. Please know that if there is ever anything we can do for you, we are just a call away. Also, know that God is in control & knows what is best for us all. Give Him your sorry & He will give you comfort. Love from all the Lacys. David, Al, Ed, Matt, Graham, Andrew & all our employees.

I was sorry to read of Mr. Burce’s passing. I remember I purchased my first car from Mr. Bruce from his yard, a burnt up 73 Camaro back in 1981. Although I only met Mr. Bruce a few times, my father always told me what a fine gentleman Jack was. I echo the thoughts, “Mechanicsville has lost an icon”.

Over the twenty five years or so I knew Jack he was a friend and mentor. Jack was never afraid to share his wisdom and experience. I have also been the receiving end of Jack letting me know when he felt I was off base. With the passage of time I look back at those “advice sessions”, and he was often correct. Distance and time reduced the frequency he and I saw each other, but when we did get together it was always like old times. Over the last several days my mind often wonders back to those times. He will be missed by all that he touched.
