John Clements Obituary

CLEMENTS, John Peter, It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. John Peter Clements who peacefully left us on Friday, July 28, 2023. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend who will be dearly missed.

Born August 25, 1957, and a lifelong resident of Carson, Virginia, Peter is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Clements, and his beloved sons, Will and James Clements. He was also blessed with two daughters-in-law, Amanda Russell and Courtney Clements, and an adored granddaughter, Lillie Clements. He is remembered by his sisters, Martha and Kimberly Clements. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Clements.

Peter attended Ferrum College and Washington and Lee University, graduating with a BA in History in 1979. Realizing his passion for business, he furthered his studies at the College of William & Mary, graduating with an MBA in 1982.

Peter's professional journey began with The Bank of Southside Virginia in 1984,

where he served as an excellent leader of Virginia Banking. Among many leadership roles, he served as Chairman of the Virginia Bankers Association, on committees of the American Bankers Association, and on Virginia's Gateway Region. His commitment to service was evident in his roles as a board member at his alma maters, the College of William & Mary, Ferrum College, Randolph-Macon College and Richard Bland College.

His devotion extended beyond his professional life into his personal interests and commitments. A faithful member of Carson United Methodist Church, Peter supported countless causes and missions. His other interests included spending quality time with his family, cooking stew at the Carson Ruritan Club, enjoying the music of the 60s and 70s, car shows, cheering on his favorite UVA sports teams, and vacationing in Virginia Beach and Florida.

Those who knew Peter will remember him as a generous, family-first individual, committed to his community. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he knew. Peter's family is asking for donations to Carson United Methodist Church in his memory in lieu of other gifts.

In remembrance of Peter, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul profoundly loved. His memory will undoubtedly continue to bring light into our lives, and he will be missed every day.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Carson United Methodist Church. A brief graveside service will immediately follow at Blandford Cemetery.
