John Anthony Edwards

EDWARDS, John, 85, of Richmond, VA passed away on August 29, 2023. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Cecilia Mary Edwards and Robert Hopkins Edwards; sisters, Patricia Harris and Sylvia Harmon. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Eloise Edwards; son, Robert (Michelle); daughter, Mary Beth; and grandchildren, Heather, John, Anna, and Ryan. John grew up in Lakeside and joined the Navy after graduating high school. Upon returning to Richmond, John met Eloise and they married in February 1964. Soon after, he started Custom Woodwork, a business he would run for 39 years. Every summer weekend was spent at the river house, teaching his children to water ski, enjoying boat rides, and welcoming many friends and family over the ensuing decades. Throughout his life, John enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including playing guitar, photography, and his model trains. Once he retired, John found life on the farm with Elosie to be relaxing, but with plenty of projects to keep him busy.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 15 at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road. A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 16 at Bliley's-Staples Mill. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park at noon.
