I should've come to Richmond more often to see this wonderful man whom I shared much time with as sportswriters etc.
I now shed tears of sadness and joy knowing that he led a wonderful life both personally and on his job. I will miss him deeply, offering my sympathies to his family, friends and Times-Dispatch Gang that hung together like brethren.

He and I were very close in age, and I know my time will come to take go away is probably just around the corner. If John greets me in Heaven, I will be very happy for an Eternity of making deadlines.

John was a close friend during our basic training at Great Lakes Naval Center. We were in a joint Company of musicians and Blue Jacket Chorus choral singers. John got orders for sea aboard the carrier Ticonderoga, and we did not meet again until 1983 in Richmond. While John became the voice of the Redskins, I shall always hear his voice in Choral practicing "..Eternal Father....oh hear us when we cry to Thee ...for those in peril on the sea.

John and I worked together on the Collegian at UR and also took many journalism classes together. He was a solid person with a kind, caring heart. A rarity. He left us too soon. With love to all of you.
