John Rogers Obituary

ROGERS, John Andrew, Sr., passed away peacefully on June 25, 2022, at the age of 72, after suffering a major stroke. He is survived by a caring wife, Mary; his only son, John and wife, Marie; his stepdaughter, Robin Whetham and husband, Todd; his brother, Carlisle Rogers; his sister, Rose Marie Robertson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Many friends loved him dearly, especially Paul Vaughan who knew John better than he knew himself. Paul was John's right hand man.

John was committed to teaching. He first taught auto body shop at Richmond Tech during the evening and then began teaching at the Chesterfield Technical Center during the day. With his free time, he could be found taking kids out to the country to teach them to hunt and fish. He held notorious volleyball games and poker nights to make sure young adults weren't causing mischief elsewhere. His memory will last a lifetime with the skills he passed on to others so they too could pass them on.

He is known throughout Nottaway as the owner of Rogers Auto Body and Truck and for helping those in need. He spent many nights riding with the Alberta Rescue Squad, helping during emergencies.

A fall Celebration of Life is planned as it was John's favorite time of year. In lieu of flowers, we think John would say, "Forget the flowers. Spend the day with your loved ones and teach a kid to hunt or fish because flowers die, memories do not."
