John Wooldridge Obituary

John Green Wooldridge, Jr.

September 9, 1939 - January 10, 2025

After a protracted battle with dementia, John G. Wooldridge, Jr. died peacefully on January 10, in Aurora, Colorado, with his wife at his side. He was 85 years old. John was born in Richmond, Virginia, to Lona Dell (McKinney) Wooldridge and John Green Wooldridge, on September 9, 1939. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond in 1957, and then enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served for five years, both in the US and in Japan. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he enrolled in Chowan Junior College and then transferred to the University of Richmond from which he graduated with a business degree in 1965. He married Alice Mary Blankenship of Covington, VA in 1964, and they went on to have three children. John worked in the finance department for Hercules, Inc. for over 30 years, primarily in Wilmington, Delaware. After retirement, John fulfilled his dream of moving back to Virginia when he and Alice moved to Glen Allen, where they lived for over ten years. John and Alice moved to Aurora, Colorado in 2022 to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, John is survived by his wife, Alice B. Wooldridge, his brother, Edward J. Wooldridge (Beverley) of Midlothian, VA, his three children, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on February 1, 1 p.m., at Blileys Funeral Home, Chippenham location, 6900 Hull Street Road, Richmond, VA. John will be interred at the Riverview Cemetery following the service. Condolences may be expressed at blileys.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Virginia Alzheimer's Association or the University of Richmond Athletic Foundation.

John and I worked Hercules Inc in Wilmington DE and were members of the country club. John made it a pleasant day to come to work. Our common interest was code books for computer programs where we improved the uses. My condolences to all of his family. I'm sad to learn of his battle with Alzheimer's.

RIP fellow Spider John Wooldridge. John and I enjoyed watching many U of R games together when he was in Wilmington, De. His passion for Richmond was unmatched, and he wouldn´t hesitate to go to a crappy sports bar with me or drive to game in short notice to cheer our beloved Spiders. He always knew what was going on with the teams or coaches before or if you could read about it. The last discussions I had with him were when he was thinking of moving to Virginia. Sadly life gets busy and I lost touch with John. I hope he got to see and enjoy many Spiders games before that awful disease took hold. Oddly I had wondered recently how and where he was. John may you rest and watch the Spiders from above. Hoping they beat VCU on the day of your service as I know that would make you smile. All the best to Alice and the family, Go Spiders!
