Johnnie Taggart Obituary

Johnnie May Taggart (nee Stancil) went home to be with the Lord December 27, 2025. She was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 11, 1945 to John Lindley Stancil and Nina May (nee Morton.) Johnnie was a generous soul to all who knew her. She liked to bake and cook and was most known for her wonderful musical abilities on the piano and organ. She was a church organist for many years in various churches around the Richmond area. Before her retirement to Florida, Johnnie was employed for over two decades as an archivist with the Virginia Historical Society. Her exemplary work was recognized when Johnnie was given the Howson W. Cole Award by the Society upon completion of her service.

Johnnie is survived by her son Brian Lee Taggart, his wife Karin Marie and her granddaughter, Abby Seays and her husband, Harrison. She is also survived by her sister, Eleanor Stancil Tuck and her husband, David and their children, Matthew, Catherine and Chris. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Zach. May she, and all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God our Father rest in peace. Amen.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Ln., Richmond, VA 23222.
