Joseph Steger Obituary

STEGER, Joseph "Joe" Ledbetter, of Ashland, and a lifelong resident of Hanover County, died unexpectedly June 26, 2021 at the age of 48. Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Dolliver; his father, James "Jimmy" Steger Sr.; and his uncle, Jesse Arthur. He is survived by his sister, Denise Battenfield (David); and brother, James Steger Jr.; his two daughters that he loved more than anything, Abigail "Abby" Gibson (Daniel) and Emily "Rissa" McKinnon (Josh); his precious granddaughter, Gracie McKinnon; his might-as-well-be-adopted daughter, Amanda Nuckols; his loyal dogs, Bailey and Otis; and a host of family, friends, cousins, nieces, nephews and pseudo-adopted kids. Joe spent his life as an electrician and you couldn't drive down a single road in the Richmond, Henrico or Hanover area without him pointing and saying, "I worked on that house" or, "I installed the lighting in that mall." He was good at what he did and he was proud of that. He could often be found helping family and others with projects around the house, but we all knew where he really longed to be was by the water with a fishing pole in his hand. He will be missed more than words can explain by his family and all that knew him.
