Judith Worsham Obituary

WORSHAM, Judith Leona Barnes Wright , "The Lord is my light and my Salvation whom shall, I fear?" Psalms 27:1.

Judith Leona Barnes Wright Worsham was welcomed into the arms of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 21, 2024, in Amelia, Virginia. Judith was born June 16, 1944, in Washington, DC at Freedman's Hospital (now Howard University Hospital) to Joseph Martin Barnes, Sr. and Elsie Hughes Barnes. She attended Powell Elementary and was among one of the first cohorts of students to integrate schools in the Washington area. She attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Shepherd Park neighborhood of Upper Northwest, graduating in 1962.

After completing undergraduate studies at Federal City College in Washington, DC, Judith began what she called "a career of a lifetime" in education with the District of Columbia Public School System. She later attended Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland where she received a Master of Science degree in Special Education, with postgraduate studies in Educational Leadership & Administration. Judith loved the teaching profession and had a profound impact on her students, teachers, and colleagues.

In 1987, Judith relocated to Amelia County where she continued her career as an educator, serving in several capacities in the classroom and as an Administrator with Chesterfield Public Schools.

In 1990, Judith met her husband, Howard Leroy Worsham. They married in 1992 and enjoyed 31 years together. In 2010, Judith retired from Chesterfield Public Schools. Over the years, she continued serving her community on a volunteer basis as a tutor and mentor to many students and families in Amelia and beyond. Judith was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening, music, theatre, and travel. She was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and Phi Delta Kappa, International.

Over the years, Judith adored the many cats, dogs, and birds, which made her home, their home. She also doted over her grandchildren, whom she called, "The best and the brightest." Judith's wise and beautiful spirit, and her remarkable vision of excellence will endure for generations.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted Husband, Howard Leroy Worsham; Two Children from a previous marriage, Kimberley S. Jones, J.D.(Frederick D. Jones III, M.D), Mark Alexander Wright; two devoted bonus children, Wanda Worsham and Zakiya Calloway (Christopher Calloway)Grandsons, Frederick Douglas Jones IV, Noah Alexander Wright, J.D., Matthew Alexander Jones, and Jacob Daniel Wright; a bonus grandson James Coleman, Jr. and Christopher Calloway, Jr.; three bonus granddaughters, Vontanya Sykes (Benjamin Sykes, Jr.), Ainsley Allen and Kiara Mickins, six (bonus) great-grandchildren; many devoted in-laws; Ashleigh Walton (God-daughter); great aunt Louise Worsham; father of her children, Alexandar Wright and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Elsie and Joseph Barnes and her Brother, Joseph M. Barnes, Jr.

I am very sorry to learn of Judy's passing. I knew her as an assistant principal at Chester Middle School when I was a teacher/coach there. She was outstanding, and always had my back in whatever happened while doing my job. She was very fair, but also never afraid to let a student know that they had stepped out of line and needed a correction. My sincere condolences to her famiily.
