May 20, 1923 - April 1, 2025

Julia Eason Mercer, 101, passed away peacefully April 1, 2025, at her home in Henrico, Virginia. She was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 20, 1923, to the late Thomas Dotterer Eason and Carrie Christian Rennie Eason. She attended Richmond public schools and graduated from Longwood University in 1944, where she was a member and president of Alpha SIgma Alpha sorority. During World War II she was a volunteer in the U.S. Army's Women's Auxiliary Motor Corps, convoying U.S. Army vehicles. On September 2, 1944, she married Roger Walker Mercer, Jr., in Overbrook Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church for more than 70 years. For many years she was an avid tennis player at Kanawha Recreation Association. Julia is survived by her three sons, Cabell Christian Mercer, Courtney Eason Mercer, and Gary Lee Mercer (Beth); and two grandsons Gregory Lee Mercer and Adam Christian Mercer. She was predeceased by her husband Roger, and her three siblings, Thomas Dotterer Eason, Jr., Marie Eason Reveley Harris, and Caroline Eason Roberts. A graveside service will be held at Hollywood Cemetery at 3 p.m. on April 25, 2025. Inn lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice, or Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church, 7000 Park Ave., Richmond, VA 23236.
