Kevin Hamlin Obituary
Kevin John Hamlin
June 18, 1947 - September 9, 2025
Kevin John Hamlin, age 78, passed from this life on September 9, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Linda Howell Hamlin, of 55 years. He is also survived by his daughters Meredith (Justin), Marlowe (Ben), and son Ryan (Frida). His grandchildren are Shane (Sierra), Matthew, Tabitha, Mia and Baltasar; and great-grandsons are Henley, Grayson and Emery. Kevin was born June 18, 1947, to Martin Francis Hamlin and Rosalind Clonan Hamlin in Utica, N.Y. His grandparents were Martin Theodore Hamlin and Jenny Cleary also George Francis Clonan and Katherine Sweeny. His five brothers are Martin, Gregory, Keith, George and Matthew, and sister, Kyle Merrick. Kevin is an Army Veteran who volunteered and served five years, including Vietnam from 1969-1970. Sgt. Hamlin returned to Fort Monroe, as it had been his assignment after Panama and before Vietnam. He was Sgt. in the 559th MP Co. and also led the Color Guard and Honor Guard. Kevin and Linda were married at the Chapel of the Centurion at Fort Monroe; a very special place for them. Following Fort Monroe, Kevin joined the Newport News Police Academy and gave nine years to Law Enforcement. At the same time he used VA Benefits and LEA Scholarships to attend Thomas Nelson CC to receive his degree in Law Enforcement, then transferred to Christopher Newport University and received his degree in Governmental Administration. This was the beginning of Kevin developing safety/security systems for Hospitals and Nursing homes, focusing on technology, manuals, staffing and Community Relations. Then the Jefferson Hotel invited him to their management team after their big renovation. Imagine going to work with a smile on your face and coming home with one as well. That was Kevin! Throughout his career, Kevin embraced every opportunity to help others and solve problems. He concluded his journey of service and management as Install Sales Manager at Lowes. This was the perfect place as it aligned with his personal interest in building/fixing things and helping people. After retiring he spent two years helping his wife to ready her parents' home to sell. Again, this project was perfect for him. Once that project was completed, he realized he had more to give and worked part time for RMC Events. He loved working golf tournaments, college ballgames and graduations. Kevin was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and "Papa." He drove up and down the East Coast supporting his children and grandchildren in athletic events, graduations, plays, parent/teacher nights, piano and dance recitals and so much more. This even included a USMC Graduation at Parris Island. He taught them about car repairs, yard care, carpentry skills and a healthy respect for tools. He was a role model for work ethic, manners, respect and the importance of participation in Faith. He was deeply involved for many years as the Scoutmaster of Troop 737 at St. Mary's. Kevin loved carpentry, photography, all things mechanical and his 1990 Ford Bronco. His carpentry skills (self-taught) added an additional 40% of space to their home. He was a fixer of things that didn't work. His one-liners were legendary. He was a life-long learner, loved reading and books, especially about military history and photography. He had a helper personality and never sought credit. A funeral mass celebrating Kevin's life will be held Friday, October 3rd at 11 am in the chapel at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Road, Henrico Virginia. Military Honors will be provided by Army Personnel from Fort Lee. Reception will follow in the Commons Area for all.
