LANIE KRUSZEWSKI Obituary

KRUSZEWSKI, Lanie Marie, beloved daughter, sister, and friend, died this past Sunday, July 29, 2012. She is survived by her parents, Patty and Reggie Kruszewski; two sisters, Leah and Jackie; and dear friend, Daniel Pritchett. She is also survived by her grandmothers, Phyllis Heberling of Virginia Beach, Grace Kruszewski of Newport News, and Marilyn Heberling of Atlantic Beach, Florida. Born March 4, 1988, Lanie attended Maggie Walker Governor's School in Richmond and graduated from James Madison University in 2011. She was an avid athlete, excelling at field hockey, soccer and basketball. More recently, she helped coach field hockey at Maggie Walker. Lanie was a food enthusiast, receiving a scholarship in 2006 to attend the Art Institute's culinary program. She loved strange and international foods but held a special place in her heart for all things bacon. She worked at Richmond restaurants Amici and Osaka, and loved riding her bike. She was a lover of books, especially the Harry Potter series. She was a generous and loyal friend, a loving sister and daughter, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Lanie's spirit and enthusiasm for living was apparent in everything she did. Services will be held Friday, August 3, at Maggie Walker Governor's School at 1000 N. Lombardy St., in Richmond at 3 p.m., followed by a reception at the family home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brainfood (brain-food.org), Virginia Bicycling Federation (vabike.org), and Maggie Walker Governor's School Foundation (804-354-1566).

I knew Lanie less than a year, but I adored her instantly and am thankful she graced me with her presence in my life for a little while. She taught me a lot about positivity and truly living in a short amount of time. I will always consider that a blessing. The outpouring of support from the community is just another indication of how many lives Lanie touched. Love and miss you always, beautiful girl!

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Kruszewski,
We are so sorry for the loss of your daughter, Lanie. We had the pleasure of watching Lanie and her Maggie Walker team play field hockey on many occasions (our daughter played for Prince George 2003-2006). The rivalry was always intense between the two schools and made for some very exciting games. We hope the good memories help carry you through the sad times.

Patty and family.

All my soccer players were very unique in their own way to me; however, Lanie has always had a very special place in my heart. Lanie was a uniquely gifted player; but more importantly she was an extraordinary person even at her young age. It's amazing to think how a young girl has impacted my life is such a positive way; she has truly touched my life. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Coach Gary

Lanie was one of the most gifted, kind, humble, funny, and brave students I have ever taught. She lit up rooms with her welcoming smile. She truly could have been anything, Though I am heart-broken, I am grateful to have had her in my class, and thereby in my life. She inspired and continues to inspire me to take leaps every now and then. She is one of the reasons that I have loved teaching. Students like Lanie bring something to their classes, and even to their teachers.

There will never be adequate words to describe the pain associated with the loss of one's child. The heart lets you live, but it's a constant reminder of your loss. She will always reside there, and that's why she wants you to continue to enjoy life. Her smile speaks volumes. Ann Moncure

Dear Kruszewski Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Lanie added so much to our school. I can still see exactly where she sat in eleventh grade English class, a winsome, perceptive, scholar who had a way with words and a desire to craft her writing.

The Balinese claim that they "have no art." They just "try to do everything as beautifully as they can." Sweet Lanie, thanks for all the ways that you added beauty and light to our lives by making your whole life a work of art.

Love and prayers to all,

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

She always had a new recipe she was trying. Specifically, I remember her bringing in this crazy flavored ice cream she made for Daniel :)... which was really good.
She was teaching herself Japanese! And I would test her knowledge at work, she was serious. It always made me laugh. Since I found out, memory after memory of her has come up in my mind. It struck me that she had a drive to constantly branch out, try things, hard things! and explore life in the most pure of ways. My heart goes out to her family and friends. I will miss her a lot.

Don't cry for Me Daddy

Don't cry for me Daddy,
I'm right here.
Although you can't see me
I see your tears.
I visit you often,
I go to work with you each day,
And when it's time for you
to close your eyes ,
On your pillow is where I lay.
I hold your hand &
stroke your hair,
And whisper in your ear.
If you're sad today Daddy,
Remember, I am here.
God took me home.
This we know is true.
But you'll always be My Daddy
Even though I'm not with you.
We will never be apart,
For every time you think of me,
Please know I'm in your Heart..........
