Lester Hudson Obituary

Lester Hudson

On January 5, 2025, Lester "Big Al" Allen Hudson entered heaven's gates in the presence of the Lord his Savior. Allen was born in Richmond, VA on March 4, 1948, to the late William Macy Hudson, Sr., and Margaret Ann Callahan Hudson. He is preceded in death by his three brothers, Woodrow, Bill and W. Macy Hudson; and one sister, Annis Hatcher. He is survived by his cherished wife of 29 years, Wanda K. Hudson; and his children, L. Allen Hudson Jr. (children, Ethan, Madelyn, and Campbell), Jennifer Davila (Ramon) (children, Morgan, Mya, and Matthew), Melany Holloway (children, Ellie and Nick) and Heather Younce (grand dogs, Axle and Sammy); great-grandchild, Elijah. Also surviving him is his sister, Ann Notch; as well as his sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Midlothian, VA and considered the people there to be his family. He was an active participant in the AWANA Cubbie's program, and Good News Club. He also sang in the choir and did whatever he could to share the gospel with people around him. After graduating from George Wythe High School in 1966, he began his career at DuPont where he worked for 43 years. While he was working at DuPont, he was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War, unit G-Battery 65th Artillery. Allen often talked about the highlight of his single life in raising his two children. He made sure his son played basketball and baseball, and his daughter, Jennifer, was a cheerleader. He often laughed about trying to put Jennifer's hair in a pigtail, and curled it for Sunday church, so she would look like the other girls. He welcomed Melany and Heather into his life after their father passed away and took on the role as their father. They loved him dearly. He was a collector of many things, to name a few; Hess Trucks, sports memorabilia, and mechanical tools. He was a skilled craftsman. He enjoyed a challenge and there was nothing he could not fix. Allen loved to cook and to try new recipes. He will be forever known for his famous pumpkin rolls and brownies.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., January 12, 2025, at Bliley's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., January 13, 2025, at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to AWANA Cubbie's, Choir Ministry, or Junior Teen's Camp at Calvary Baptist Church at 10230 Hull Street Rd, Midlothian, VA 23112.
