3 years ago today and I am still in disbelief. A moments notice and gone. We had just text each other. And then you left. I love you dad, forever! You are deeply missed; your laugh, your smile, your encouragement, your strength, your love of Jesus Christ and his people, your wisdom and your love for the Washington Football team. More importantly your love for me. I thank you for helping me to pursue God's love. You have forever changed my life.

It is hard to believe Rev Newbill has been gone for two years. I think of him each day, as he is preaching the Word of God and bringing out the best in people today. Rev, I miss you, but I know you are a soldier marching for Jesus. To your family, you are all in my prayers and thoughts and I hope you will continue to carry Rev's legacy further.
Blessings to all of you

I offer my deepest sympathy to Lewis’ family. I pray that special times shared with him comfort you when you miss his physical presence. As a coworker at VSU and friend, I thought he was a beautiful example of God’s love and certainly one of the “kindest” persons I have ever known.

Pastor Lewis Newbill was the epitome of a good man. He was our pastor, resident educator, second father and friend. He helped guide us as college students at VSU and took us into the next chapter of our lives when he married us. His smile could light up a room and instantly give you comfort. We will never forget that smile, the love and kindness that he showed everyone around him and the advice and support that he provided. He was such a blessing to us and so many others. We truly loved him and will miss him dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Lady Newbill and his family.

Rev. Newbill was a very special person to me... He brought my whole family back into the church (MSBC) , my daughter, my mother , my brother , my sister , myself and my husband who hadn’t been in church since he was a child. My brother even got baptized and joined the church. He was there with my mom during her sickness and death. I may not have seen or talked to him often , but he remained a vital part of my life. I watched him on fb on Sunday mornings and bible study on Wednesdays. My deepest condolences to the family. Just know he did his work on earth and touched a lot of peoples lives. Thanks for being in my life, RIP. Thanks for being a spiritual father to my daughter.

I enjoyed the time that we worked together at VSU. I found him to be a honest man with a heart of gold. I last saw Rev. Lewis when he preached at my church- St. John of Charles City. So, so sorry for your loss. May your fond memories and knowing that he is now with our eternal Father comfort you during this time of sorrow.

To the family of Reverend Lewis Newbill! I pray God’s grace, mercy, love, and strength of you all during this trying time. Lewis was my dear friend for whom I am forever indebted! We had a 31 year relationship that started in the United States Army and it ended with us both serving in the Army of the Lord! I will never forget his contagious smile and willingness to receive everybody he met! He was a great supporter of my ministry and I know God is well pleased with his! May His spirit of love that comes from God reign over us all. He will definitely be missed! I love you my brother. Until we see each other again....

Rev. Lewis Newbill was such an impact on the Emmaus walks. He loved in so many ways. He was truly the most special, loving human you will ever meet. His smile and hugs would just make your day. You wanted to be around him, because being around him was like being around Jesus. We will forever cherish the precious memories we have of Lewy (as we called him).

I will never forget Rev. Newbill. When He first came to Morning Star Baptist Church, He was a very energetic and firey man who not only Loved people, but He Loved God's People. And they loved Him right back. He made coming to church fun because of the spirit He carried. He really Loved the Young people at Morning Star. They were his babies as he would call them. It is very hard to believe that He is No longer with Us in the physical, but He will Always be remembered. Rest On In The Arms of God Rev. Newbill. Love You❤

To the family of Pastor Lewis Newbill and First Lady Lewis Newbill:
In the history of my 25+ years of being a member of Angel View Baptist Church, I can say that I have witnessed the transition of three pastors (former and active). All of which happen to be purpose driven men. The purpose of all as I believe it, was to do God's will. Our interactions were minimal but your spirit was and always remained bright. I saw the desire you may have had for the church and I wish all could have experienced the Glory that has always taken place within those four walls of the sanctuary of Angel View Baptist Church. They say that good things happens in 3's or the third times the charm. I know for many including myself as a member of Angel View Baptist Church, it does not feel well when a leader is separated. I know as a member of two large families; maternal and paternal that when the leader of the family is separated...things don't feel well. So, to look at the bright side of this, I simply say Earth's sorrow is heaven's gain. I pray without ceasing that your wife First Lady Desiree Newbill and your family recognize that you are still the head and that you will forever be looking over them with a smile of peace.

A pillar for so many in the kingdom building process, one who made it easy receiving the gospel, even joyful; aside from that, something about this man of God drew you in to him, but more importantly the kingdom. Indeed, I on several occasions suggested to him that his true reward was in heaven, but never imagined him collecting just yet. He will truly be missed. I know that he would say don’t worry, everything is alright; be comforted, in one another, and especially Christ Jesus. I render thoughts, prayer, and condolence to the family.

My deepest condolence to the Newbill family. It is with a heavy heart in the passing of Lewis. I have known him for many years, first as a soldier in the US Army and then as the Pastor of Morning Star Baptist Church. As a soldier Lewis serviced his country well and as a Pastor Lewis serviced his community well. You will be missed

This is about my friend that I only knew for about 4 years but we hit it off right away, Pastor Lewis Newbill was such a loving, mighty man of God. He encouraged so many people. The first definition of preaching I learned was that preaching was truth through personality. Pastor Newbill used all of his personality to preach the word of God and to lead the people of God. He was just himself allowing God to use him. I am a pastor and have dealt with so many transitions but this one is hard. Now my prayer is that First Lady Desiree and the family will feel God's presence and comfort as they go forward.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will truly miss Rev. Newbill. He was my Administrator for one of the Ministries I was involved in at NDEC. Recently I stopped by the church to drop off some items to him. We stood in front of the church and we shared stories about acquaintances that him and I knew in Petersburg. We stood there and we laughed at the stories we shared. In the middle of a pandemic, it was a pleasure to share laughter. He was always a pleasant and energetic person and always willing to help. After the passing of our Bishop, I called him and he ministered to me. He was my Sheppard in the time of my need. As the late Bishop G.O. Glenn would always say "God is still in control". I pray for healing and comfort for the family. R.I.P. Rev. Newbill

This was so shocking but I know God makes no mistakes. My friend of over 30 years, my buddy, my Army PAC days, speaking on the goodness of the Lord, laughing and having fun. Your infectious smile and laughter will live on. Man you will be missed so much. Who will I call now when I want to share another blessing or just to hear you picking at me. To the family, my prayers with you all. Kids and grandkids cherish the memories always! Keep them close to your heart. God will carry you through this.
