Lillian Slater Obituary

SLATER, Lillian Throckmorton "Little Nannie", 86, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 27, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lillian Throck-morton; and her husband of 60 years, Edward Slater Jr. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Ann Fontaine, Betty Flippo and Harold, Jane Madison and Earl; son, Ed Slater III; son-in-law, Ed Johnson, all of Mechanicsville; 14 grandchildren, Michael, Jimmy and David Fontaine, Rosie Szabo, Margie Pearson, Bobby, Scott and Rebecca Flippo, James III and Joey Hazelwood, Bobby Johnson, Christie Finch, Nikki Cousins, Tiffany Morgan; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joyce Johnson and Dot Enroughty of Richmond; brother, Thomas Throckmorton and wife, Monette, of Littleton, N.C.; sister-in-law, Frances Throckmorton of Ashland, Va.; special friends of the family, Frances Groom and David Duke Sr. Mrs. Slater retired with 28 years of service from F.W. Woolworth and Company on Broad Street, and was a member of Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church. She was a kind, loving, gentle person and loved animals. She was "Little Nannie" to all who knew and loved her. The family will receive friends at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, and where services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, January 31. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.
