Linda Grippe Obituary

Linda Grippe

May 6, 1944 - January 23, 2025

Linda Ann, Grippe passed peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 80. Linda was born and raised in Erie, PA, where she also attended Mercyhurst College completing a BA in Elementary Education, and Gannon University obtaining a Master of Education. She met her beloved husband James Anthony Grippe in Erie through a family friend, and they married in 1973. Linda had a lifetime love of teaching, reading, and learning, which she shared with many children over her decades of being a schoolteacher. She is lovingly remembered by many of her preschool and kindergarten students as she was their first school teacher. Linda retired from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Richmond, VA. She enjoyed her retirement engaging in Volunteer positions with VCU Children's Hospital and the Church of Redeemer. Linda also continued her creativity through activities she loved most, reading, crafts, quilting, knitting, and sewing. Linda was cherished by her family, friends, and neighbors, with whom she shared countless moments of laughter, companionship, and adventures. Linda was known for her kindness, generosity, and devotion to God. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry "Bus" Thomas Cotter and Virginia Elizabeth Cotter; her husband, James Anthony Grippe; and several extended family members. She will be missed and remembered by her daughter, Ann Abell, and husband, Mike; Anthony Grippe, and wife, Stephanie; and her grandchildren, Ashton Luby, Hunter and McKenzie Abell, and Luca and Sebastian Grippe.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116. A funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Church of the Redeemer, 8275 Meadowbridge Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23116. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lewis Ginter Botanical Children's Garden in Linda's name as this was one of her favorite places to spend time with her grandchildren. https://my.lewisginter.org/donate/i/thrive

Linda will be laid to rest at Laurel Hills Cemetery in Erie, PA.
