Louise Nemecek Obituary
May 29, 1934 - November 5, 2024
Louise Brander Bunnell Nemecek "Weeze/Wez", passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on November 5, 2024, at age 90, in Richmond. She was the daughter of the late Frederick H. and Louise Taliaferro Bunnell. She is survived by her son, Jay (Nancy); daughter, Elizabeth; grandchildren, Courtney (Victor) Condori and Christopher Nemecek; great-grandchildren, Hailey Nemecek, Taylor Crenshaw, Jason and Joaquin Condori; cousin, Mary Helen Taliaferro; niece, Page Bauder; and nephew, Lawrence Bunnell.
Wez grew up on Monument Avenue, living in a home with three generations under one roof. Her lifelong love of children started with a day care business she operated in her side yard when she was only 12. She attended high school at Collegiate and graduated from St. Margaret's School, excelling in athletics. She loved her summers at Camp Okahahwis and Wharton's Grove and the family cottage at Virginia Beach. After attending RPI (now VCU), Wez married James H. Nemecek, Sr. and they opened/operated the specialty clothing store Skirt N' Shirt in Carytown.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Confederacy and had a passion for Richmond's early history and her family genealogy. Wez enjoyed hours manually researching both at the State Library archives and roaming through cemeteries across the globe. Throughout her life she created family scrapbooks with photos and memorabilia. Later in life, she developed a love of opera, fancying Dmitri Hvorostovsky.
Wez was an exceptional person and her life was marked by devotion and loyalty to her friends and family. She had a warmth that attracted people from all walks of life and cherished each relationship. She especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private service was held graveside in Hollywood Cemetery and a celebration of her life will be announced in early 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC).
