Marcus Sclater Obituary
Marcus Weldon Sclater (MW), 90 years old, son of Marcus Winn Sclater and Pearle W. Sclater, of Palmyra, VA, died July 12, 2025. Preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, WM. Eugene Sclater and Bobby W. Sclater.
Survived by his wife, Shirley L. Sclater; two children, Wayne M. Sclater (Cheryl) and Wanda S. Brown (Dave); four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
MW worked as a carpenter for several contractors, then started his own business, MW Sclater Bldr, Inc. He incorporated in 1985 and built custom homes, mostly in Hanover Co. The greatest reward of his career was building quality homes and lasting relationships with his customers.
Many thanks to Synergy Home Care and Affinity Hospice Care for their loving care for MW and family in his final days.
Friends will be received at Bliley's - Staples Mill on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. with a service starting at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at Bethel Baptist Church, Palmyra, VA on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to the Ashland Rescue Squad or Bethel Baptist Church.
