Margarett Gregg Obituary

GREGG, Margarett Delma, of Midlothian, died unexpectedly at home, one month shy of her 96th birthday. She was born on March 6, 1925 in Collinsville, Oklahoma. Her family lived in Lyons, Kansas and Borger, Texas, before they settled down in Marshfield, Missouri. She graduated from Marshfield High School, where she was the student body president and a member of the band and orchestra, playing the violin and piccolo. She attended the University of Kansas, studying aeronautical engineering and worked for Boeing before duty called and she enlisted in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. Following her graduation from the Burge Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, Missouri, she completed post-graduate courses at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and Barnes Hospital in St Louis, Missouri, where she became certified as a nurse anesthetist. Margarett's professional career spanned over 30 years. She worked for the Smith-Glynn-Callaway Clinic in the operating room, assisting with surgeries at both Burge and Baptist Hospitals as a nurse anesthetist. She ended her working career as a patient relations counselor. She was affectionately called "Gregg" in both her college and long professional career. While living in Springfield, she was very active at the Dale Street United Methodist Church, serving on several church boards, as well as singing in the choir. Upon her retirement in 1984, she moved to Richmond to be closer to her family. She became a member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church and was actively involved in many of the church's activities. As a member of the Midlothian Ruritan Club, she was involved in the making and selling of their Brunswick stew, as well as the other facets of club life. Her membership in the Midlothian Garden Club was very dear to her heart and she served in a variety of positions there as well. Margarett was predeceased by her parents, M. Berk Gregg and Nona C. Gregg; her brother, Harold C. Gregg; sister-in-law, Emarose Gregg; nephew, James D. Gregg; and great-nephew, Jeremy M. Gregg. She is survived by her lifelong family friend, Jakie I. Harmon of Ozark, Missouri, who was definitely the sister Margarett never had; sister-in-law, Polly Nasser Holland Gregg of Powhatan; niece, Carol T. Gregg of Powhatan; nephews, P. Michael Gregg (Gwen) of Azle, Texas, William L. Gregg (Claudia) of Midlothian, Arthur Holland of Maryland and James Holland (Christine) of Washington. In addition, she leaves numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 1100 Mt. Pisgah Drive, Midlothian, Va. 23113. Services will be private. A memorial service to be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at bennettbardenfh.com.

My God comfort you in your grief. My Mom, Rachel Morris, was one of Margaret's classmates at Burge Hospital. I got to know and love her later in life. She was one of my oldest friends, as she helped deliver me at Burge Hospital in 1952. She was a blessing to so many people.
