Mary Venn Obituary

Mary Regina 'Gina' Venn

December 5, 1938 - March 30, 2025

Gina was a gardener, photographer, and friend. She obtained a nursing degree (UVA) then earned a PhD in Nursing Admin, working in this field until she retired. Her photo landscapes won numerous awards. Proudly Irish, she also loved the Blue Ridge Mountains.

So sad to find out about Gina´s passing. We will cherish the memories. Gina loved her garden and it was beautiful to see all the colorful flowers year after year. We enjoyed many meals with friends at her house. Rest in peace Gina

Mary (or Gina) loved the Native American culture, and the beauty of Arizona, where she used to go on vacations. She shared these things with me, her neighbor and peer, as well as her gardening knowledge and experience, and not a few cups of tea. She was always cheerful and courageous and pressing ahead, despite several major medical set-backs over the last several years.
Our neighborhood is poorer without Gina. I will miss this stately lady.

In memory of Gina, an independent woman of knowledge, skilled photographer, and great travel companion that evoked a sense of adventure, curiosity, and freedom in all that shared her life. She was someone whose passion for exploration never waned. Her intellect was sharp, always eager to engage in thoughtful conversation, questioning everything, and seeking to learn about art, politics, religion, and various other subjects. She attended classes offered by the University of Richmond´s School of Professional & Continuing Studies as well as being a member of the Camera Club of Richmond.

As a photographer she saw the world through a lens, capturing beautiful landscapes which were very artistic and her favorite. Her camera was an extension of her, a tool for preserving her memories of the love she had for the Blueridge Mountains and other landscapes out West where she did solo trips of adventure.

We shared our sense of wanderlust. She was a great travel companion, her adaptability, resourcefulness, and her presence made every adventure feel like a shared experience, filled with fun, laughter and a sense of connection.
Her independence was not just in her travels or her profession, but in her way of thinking. She was self-sufficient, she valued her freedom, but knew that true independence came from the ability to connect with others, and she enjoyed being with those who appreciated the journey as much as she did.

Her memory I will always hold dear - like a photograph frozen in time and remembering her sense of humor, willingness to go down an unknown road in search of another great photograph.

You were very much-loved Gina Venn.
