Mason Evans Obituary

Mason Longstreet Evans

April 19, 2001 - January 26, 2025

Mason, 23, left us way too early in this life on January 26, 2025. Born April 19, 2001, Mason is preceded in death by his grandparents, Les and Helen Mason of Powhatan, and Thad and Nancy Evans of Midlothian. He is survived by his extraordinarily loving and supportive parents and brother, Tom and Mary Margaret Evans of Richmond and Davis Evans of Charlotte, NC. Mason is also survived by his aunts Lee Mason Baker of Thailand, Ann Mason of Basalt, CO and Jennie Evans of Virginia Beach; his uncles Ben Mason of Virginia Beach and Woody (Holly) Evans of Alexandria; and his first cousins Reilly Mason of Raleigh, NC, Ford Baker of New York, NY, Brother Mason of Richmond, Anna Evans of Charleston, SC, Reid Mason of Washington DC, Will Evans of Arlington and Grey Baker of Washington DC.

Mason cherished his family and friends above all other things. He loved gatherings of any type, and particularly family events with his cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. Never shy, he made it his job to get at least one laugh from everyone, typically accomplishing many more than that in just about any social setting. Mason loved his friends, maintaining strong bonds with both childhood friends and those he had just met. He held all of these relationships in the highest regard.

Some of Mason's fondest memories were of times on the mountain at the University of the South. Sewanee held a special place in his heart, as did his Phi Society brothers. He also loved boating, fishing and relaxing to his favorite music at Camp Betty, his family cottage in Deltaville, and spending time on the James River in Richmond. Some of his most peaceful moments were those spent with his FOCUS friends on Martha's Vineyard and working at Hill's Resort in Priest Lake, Idaho.

Mason lived hard, laughed often, loved all and suffered mightily. We love you Mas, and we look forward to seeing you again down the road. Bask in your serenity and peace, take care of your grandparents and give Harvey and Walter a big hug from all of us.

A service will be held at St. Stephen's Church in Richmond on Thursday February 6, 2025 at 11.00 am.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Sewanee.edu or infocus.org.

Mary, Tom and Davis,

I am so very sorry for your loss. Mason was a special young man. As your Aunt Libbie advised me once when my grandmother died, don´t grieve, but be thankful for every day you were given with him on earth and rest in the knowledge you will one day be reunited with him in that mansion for the hilltop.
Prayers and love,
Steve Grist
