Matthew Dennis "Matt" Koziol

KOZIOL, Matthew "Matt" Dennis, 51, of Mechanicsville, Va., passed away on November 20, 2021. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Thelma Sparshott, Linwood Sparshott, Ruth Koziol and Frank Koziol. He is survived by his wife, Amy; his children, Jack and Sam; his parents, Dennis and Jane Koziol; his brothers, Steve Koziol and Chris Costa (Beth); in-laws, Wayne and Brenda Clarke; and a host of family and friends who love him. Matt had a great love for music and was a huge fan of the band Rush. He had a contagious smile and laugh that will be missed by all but forgotten by none. Matt was a talented woodworker, cook and bass guitar player. He was a former Hanover County Sheriff's Deputy. He used his knowledge and experience in law enforcement to transition to a career as a firearms instructor, working with the Marine Corps as well as the U.S. Department of State. His adventurous personality was showcased by his love for camping, hiking and rock climbing. Matt also cherished life as a father; he loved to watch his boys play baseball and soccer. In his spare time, he loved cheering for his other boys...the Dallas Cowboys. Please join us at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021. The family will receive friends at North Run Baptist Church, 2100 Lydell Dr., Richmond, Va. A formal service will commence at 2 p.m. In place of flowers, family and friends may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society and the American Head and Neck Society.
