Megan Clarkson Obituary
November 8, 1974 - April 29, 2025
Clarkson, Megan McKinley, age 50, passed away on April 29th.
Megan is survived by her husband of 21 years, Tee, and her two Children, Thomas and Lila.
Megan attended St. Catherine's School and Graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in English in 1997.
Megan had an incredible love of music of all genres and always felt music was the most universal means of human expression. She shared mixed tapes, then cd's, then finally playlists with friends and family since she was a kid. You might just as easily find her listening to the Dixieland Jazz her mother and father loved so much as to the more modern bluegrass she had come to appreciate in recent years. She and her husband often found time for themselves traveling to see music and relished friendships both near and far that were rooted in a love for live music.
In more recent years, Megan volunteered as a reading assistant and mentor at Henry Marsh Elementary School in Richmond where she would spend an entire year working with an individual student. This work meant a tremendous amount to her as she developed close relationships with students and was able to see real progress in their lives.
Megan loved to travel and did so extensively with family and friends. She spent hours and hours compiling information in advance of vacations whether to New York or Paris, Colorado or Culebra. She had a knack for discovering the best restaurants, trails, or coral reefs that might have easily gone unnoticed. She could often be found in the morning in bed on her computer, planning some incredible journey to the other side of the world that might be years in the making.
Finally, and most importantly, Megan was an incredible, confident, loving and insightful friend, mother and wife.
A Celebration of life will be held at the Nature Center at Maymont on Sunday, May 4th, at 3:30 p.m., Casual dress.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Communities In Schools Richmond.
