Merle Robertson

1929 - 2025

Merle Elizabeth Martin Robertson died on November 1, 2025 – All Saints Day -in Charlottesville, VA. She was born on July 10, 1929 in Richmond, VA. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Hilary Robertson, Sr. and her son, Hilary Robertson, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Christie Walker and husband Paul of Charlottesville, as well as her grandchildren: Hilary Walker of Charlottesville, Glen W. Allen and her husband Jake of Sausalito, CA and Rob Walker of Asheville, NC.

Merle lived in Richmond for 71 years. She attended Short Pump, Westhampton and Glen Allen for school and was married to Hilary at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. She worked at several companies including Realty International and Data Systems Corporation. After her husband Hilary died, she moved to Charlottesville to be near Christie and Paul and their children. She was an adoring grandmother and loved to indulge Hilary, Glen and Rob with breakfast in bed, shopping trips and family vacations. One of her most favorite things was hosting family and friends in her home and preparing sumptuous meals. She was also an avid gardener, knitter and sewist and loved to volunteer at her church.

Her final years were spent in the loving company of the staff and residents of the Martha Jefferson House where she received the most extraordinary care.

Her family wishes to thank all of them for making her last years so wonderful. A funeral service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlottesville on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, her family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Christ Episcopal Church or The Martha Jefferson House.
