It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy Jean Jaeger Davis. Nancy was born on June 15, 1946, to Eugene and Emma Jaeger in Washington DC. She grew up in New Jersey, Norfolk, and finally Newport News, Virginia. She graduated from Ferguson High School in Newport News in 1964. She attended the College of William and Mary and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968. She began teaching in the Newport News public school system. Nancy married John Maston Davis on July 3, 1971. They moved to Sharps, Virginia in September 1972. After getting her children started in school, she began substituting in the Richmond County public schools and later taught with the title one program for 15 years, retiring in 2008. Nancy was a long-term member of Milden Presbyterian Church in Sharps and was also an active elder for several terms.
She is survived by her sons: Ryan Maston Davis (Jade), Todd Hunter Davis (Jessica), Gene Dobyns Davis; her daughter, Channing Noel Davis Thompson (Sam); her grandchildren: Madison Jenny Davis, Carissa Hunter Davis, Sam Wyatt Thompson, Caroline Rose Thompson, and Lindsay Jean Thompson. Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, the Honorable John Maston Davis; her son Karl Wyatt Davis; and her granddaughter Karly Elizabeth Davis. Nancy's family meant everything to her. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life! She loved living in her home on the Rappahannock River and watching the wildlife and the change of seasons. It was a special place to raise her children and have her grandchildren visit. She considered Sharps to be God's little piece of Heaven on Earth. Walking the beach along the Rappahannock River was one of her favorite pastimes. She enjoyed reading, her crossword puzzles, gardening, and playing bridge with her long-time friends in the Sharps Bridge Club.
In lieu of flowers, Nancy's wishes were that you would consider donating to one of the following charities: Ronald McDonald House,
Doctors Without Borders, or Operation Smile.
Nancy's funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 11:00 a.m. at her beloved Milden Church. The Reverend Thomas Coye will officiate.
