Natalie Lucy "Nat" Filipowicz

1935 - 2023

FILIPOWICZ, Natalie "Nat" Lucy, 88, of Midlothian, Va., passed away peacefully June 10, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Natalie was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on May 29, 1935, to Charles and Sophie Augustyn. She was married in 1957, which brought her to Richmond in 1962, which she considered her hometown. Natalie was an avid gardener and tennis player and took up pickleball in her late seventies. She worked as a bookkeeper at B&B printing for 33 years. Natalie enjoyed family beach trips, a good farmer's market, taking care of her home where she lived for 57 years, a dry martini or a glass of wine and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many friends. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. Nat was an incredible mom, a loyal friend, fun, compassionate and caring to all. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by one grandchild; and her parents, Charles and Sophie Augustyn. She is survived by her children, James Filipowicz (Gaylynn) of San Antonio, Texas, Mary Ellen Letien (Scott) of Bluffton, S.C., Gayle Nelson (Don) of Weems, Va. and Carl Filipowicz (Kim) of Powhatan, Va.; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and her special friends, Brenda Bland, Greg Frazee and Sandy Clark. The family would like to thank her team of doctors at VCU Hospital for their devoted care. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2023 at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd. A private memorial ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the MCV/VCU Massey Cancer Center.
