Otto Moore Obituary

Otto N. Moore, Sr.

March 11, 1938 - January 14, 2025

On January 14, 2025, heaven gained an angel. The sun rose for Otto N. Moore, Sr. on March 11, 1938 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Major and Catherine Moore. The youngest of eight, he attended Huntington High School where he ran track and played in the band. After graduating in 1956, he attended Johnson C. Smith University and earned a degree in Biology. In 1958 he married Alma Joyce Martin and they raised seven children, including four of their own. After almost fifty years in the field, Otto retired as a pharmaceutical salesman and began working part time at Richmond's Jefferson Hotel, where he enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends. Throughout his career, through his children and grandchildren, and in the community, Otto was known for his generous spirit and will leave his devout legacy amongst those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Alma Martin Moore. He leaves to cherish 7 children, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 3009 Chestnut Avenue, Newport News, VA. Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the funeral home.

For a brief time in the early to mid '70s, I had the pleasure to watch Mr. Moore interact with his family, friends, and other neighbors. He was the master of kindness, empathy, and an example of A Good Person. May his family always be proud to have had their experiences with him, because he truly was one of The Best!
