Pamela Miller Obituary
Pamela Louise Miller, 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, after courageously fighting an almost two-year battle with cancer.
Pam was born on September 30, 1950, to Richard E. Logan and Pearl Joanne Logan. She grew up in Goshen, Indiana, where she met the love of her life, Bruce R. Miller, in 1967. They were married on August 2, 1970, and shared over 50 wonderful years together.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bruce; her daughter, Angela M. Smith and husband Glenn Childress; her son, Brandon R. Miller and wife Andrea Miller; and her cherished granddaughter, Rosalind C. Smith, who was the light of her life.
Pam attended the University of Indiana, where she worked at the school newspaper from 1968–1969, and later continued her education at Indiana State. Her love of learning never faded, and while working at the Dean's Office at Virginia Commonwealth University, she continued taking classes.
Throughout her career in public service, Pam worked tirelessly to make a difference. She began at the Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C., which led to a role with the Department of Fish and Wildlife in Ann Arbor, Michigan. "Go Blue!" After returning to Virginia, which she deeply loved, she continued serving the state through the Department of Medical Assistance Services. There, she played a vital role as a liaison in rolling out the SNAP program, ensuring mothers in need received access to health insurance. Pam later concluded her distinguished career at the Department of Health, where she helped coordinate supplies and assistance for New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Pam and Bruce were both deeply involved in their church community, where they found friendship, faith, and joy. They especially treasured the many years of fellowship during the church's annual German Dinners, which became a beloved tradition full of lasting memories.
Pam loved nature in all its forms, especially the ocean. Many of the family's most treasured vacations centered around exploring wildlife, coastal beauty, and all things flora and fauna. Her favorite destinations included her beloved Kiawah Island in South Carolina and Sanibel Island in Florida, both of which brought her immense joy and peace. An avid bird enthusiast and member of the Audubon Society, Pam especially loved penguins, often calling them her "spirit animal."
Pam will be remembered for her lifelong dedication to education, her love of family, her faith, her joy in nature, and her service to others.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 503 Stuart Circle, Richmond, VA 23220. Light Reception to follow.
