Patricia Elmore Obituary

Patricia Hutcherson Elmore

September 15, 1940 - December 21, 2024

ELMORE, Patricia "Patsy" Hutcherson, of North Chesterfield, passed away on December 21, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Lewis Hutcherson and Ethel Izell Houck Hutcherson and her husband, Spencer Hardy Elmore. She is survived by her children, John Spencer Elmore (Catherine) and Susan Elmore Pfautz (Michael); two grandsons, Benjamin Charles Pfautz and Adam Spencer Pfautz; a brother, Harry Lewis Hutcherson, Jr. (Tricia); a niece, Laura Hutcherson Cruz (Fernando); a great-nephew, Diego Cruz; and a great-niece, Sofia Cruz.

Patsy attended Blackstone High School where she played basketball and graduated in 1958. She subsequently received degrees from both Mary Washington College (Bachelor of Arts, 1962) and the University of Virginia (Master of Education, 1968). She served as a middle school English teacher for over 20 years, where she made countless life-long friends and eventually retired from Chesterfield County Public Schools.

Patsy and Spencer were founding members of the Stonehenge Golf and Country Club where they enjoyed playing golf both together and with friends for over 40 years. She enjoyed gardening, travel, arranging flowers, watching college basketball, and many family vacations at their home on the Outer Banks (Nags Head) in North Carolina. She also spent numerous hours volunteering her time and serving others. Most notably was her involvement with the Restore Habitat for Humanity, Powhatan, Virginia, and her receipt of the 2024 Volunteer of the Year Award. She also served as a historic interpreter at St. John's Church, a school docent at Wilton House Museum, and a history teacher at the Valentine Richmond History Center. Patsy loved a good celebration and will always be remembered for the poems and stories that she would read and tell to memorialize the occasion.

The memorial service will be conducted by Reverend Dr. Mollie Roberts, Rector of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, at the church, 2341 Winterfield Road, Midlothian, Virginia, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the Parish Hall of the church for a celebration of Patsy's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Habitat for Humanity Powhatan, 1922 Urbine Road, Powhatan, Virginia 23139; Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (altar/flower guild), 2341 Winterfield Road, Midlothian, Virginia 23113; St. John's Church (grounds/gardens), 2401 E. Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia 23223 or to the SPCA 2519 Hermitage Road, Richmond, Virginia 23220.

We so appreciated Patsy's dedication to the Powhatan ReStore. She was an amazing member of the volunteer team! And I will always appreciate the kind words and caring gestures she shared with me during my dad's illness and ultimate celebration of his life in August.
