Patricia Maynard Obituary

MAYNARD, Mrs. Patricia Vaughan, 72, passed peacefully in the early morning hours of April 6, 2021, at the Hock Family Pavilion hospice facility located in Durham, N.C. Even though visitors were limited at the facility, Pat was surrounded by her family and a lot of love in her final days.

Pat, or "Patsy" to many, was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, friend and so much more. She was the type of person that would do anything for anyone. If a friend or family member needed her, she was there in an instant, without question, and ready to help with a warm hug. You were always in for a bit of fun when you hung with Pat, and her laugh had the inexplicable ability to light up a room. To say she will be missed by many doesn't begin to explain it.

Pat was born in Oxford, N.C. to Mollie Mae and Greeley Madison Vaughan on November 26, 1948. She spent her early childhood in Clarksville, Va., before moving to Richmond, Va. in 1961. Pat graduated from Hermitage High School in 1967 and worked at Travelers Insurance Company until 1978. She married Robert "Bob" William Maynard in 1977 and gave birth to their daughter, Kelly Maynard McCuistion, in 1983. She and Bob moved to North Carolina in 2004, where they enjoyed lakefront living on Kerr Lake with their beloved Boston terrier, Jake. She was recently overjoyed to become a grandma to Harlow Lynne McCuistion in March of 2020, but unfortunately was diagnosed with lung cancer six months later. She put up a tough fight, but in the end, sadly, the cancer was too far progressed.

Pat is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Kelly; and son-in-law, Robb McCuistion; granddaughter, Harlow; and brothers, Bill Vaughan and Mike Hanchey.

Due to COVID, her memorial service is being postponed until early summer when (hopefully) the situation is more under control. Her Facebook page will be kept updated with details: facebook.com/people/Pat-Vaughan-Maynard/.

Pat was a big animal lover so in lieu of flowers, the family requests that small donations be made to the Clarksville SPCA: lakecountryspca.org/.

Pat and I met at Hermitage High School and she was the kind of person you felt like you had known forever. She was always smiling and a real treasure to be around. I´m quite sure she and Jesus are laughing at something right now like she always did. May the family have God´s Peace and Grace during this difficult time.

You are now at Peace and Comfort with your Heavenly Father. She was a great neighbor or friend growing up and remained friends all these years. She will be greatly missed, but her lovely smile will light up the Heavens. So anytime you want to see her just look at the sky on a bright sunny day !!!
